Competitive cross stitching--who knew?! I cross stitched a lot in my younger years and recently picked up a kit to see if I could get back into the hobby. I just need a 26-hour day.🥴 Love that old table cover and your new updates. Beautiful colors!

Who knew indeed? Serious cross stitch is not for folks who are in a hurry. I've stitched off and on over the years. I went through all of the stuff I have from a major stint over 20 years ago (hello unfinished Christmas stocking for my now 28-year old son). I could seep myself busy for a long time to come with just the things that I have on hand! With all the things I love to do, I need a second head and pair of arms so one set can focus on the fun stuff.

Y’all got the winds I usually get in the mountains. That’s no joke those winds. Annually knock out power for us. Judging from the trees age that fell it must be rare to have 40+mph winds up there. Those pics make me think of hurricanes too. Super glad y’all made it through unscathed! Happy Fall!

I think where we live now is in a somewhat protected area from the highest winds, but not always! Whidbey Island gets hammered regularly, but this storm was even beyond the pale in its intensity. I was looking for some peak wind gust info, and found a home station on the south end of the island that peaked at 108.7 mph!!! That is unheard of, even in the biggest storms.

Happy fall to you!

All along my I thought you were being silly, pronouncing your embroidery challenge as “steotchalong!” Is that like stereo-stitch-along? Also, maybe the people with the chickens and ducks prudently brought their feathered friends inside! Or they have a backyard coop? Believe it’s wise to coop your birds at night so as not to give foxes, raccoons, cats and other predators an easy meal.

Welllll... I don't think those people are the best caretakers of their birds. Maybe they were in one of the coops they have, I hope so. They had more birds a while back, and I think they were probably told to get rid of them because the yard was attracting rats and smelled pretty bad. The guy that lives there is pretty odd, overly friendly but not the type of person you want to engage with because you'll get trapped listening to him. I hope the birds are okay!

And yes - steotchalong is correct! Stench (like beotch I think), is the name of the company of the woman that runs it. It's all very silly, and fun.

😂 I see. In the same family of humor as Stitch-n-Bitch and Happy Hookers.

I love the gnomes! Beautiful needlework. And I’d never heard of that competition before, will be looking that up to learn more (and maybe coerce some people to make a team!)

Thank you! I enjoyed using some of my new embroidery skills to make them. As for Steotchalong, it's more fun than I expected! I'm on a team with people I don't really know, put together through the Discord associated with Anne Helen Petersen's Culture Study. Very lovely people, but very busy too. I may be looking to switch teams next year to a group that a little more active than mine. I recommend following Stench on FB (if you're there). If not, you should still be able to watch the Friday livestreams before each pattern is dropped. Here's the opening ceremonies video: https://www.facebook.com/Steotch/videos/374494344807996

Thanks Jaq! We got very lucky in the storm, some people were without power for days. It was pretty wild for a few hours!
