That's Gneiss! #91 ~ In which I almost sent this out without a title
Things are turning around.
I’m no longer in limbo, wondering what I’ll be doing at work. I will be the new Programming Services Coordinator (that is as close to my actual title as I know). Despite the trauma of the way this all went down, I’m glad to know my fate and to start looking forward - it’s something I can get excited about.
Our plumbing problem was fixed lickety-split! It took just one day to do the work, and another for someone to put the patio back together. Water and all biosolids are flowing as they should!
The best thing about the week though, was going to see the Mekons on Thursday night!
Oh wait - that’s not right. The band did take their name from the dastardly villain of the 1950’s comic Dan Dare.
He is specially bred for his intellect. He uses a flying chair, which is mind controlled, to carry around his atrophied body.
Michael tells me the band members do use flying chairs, they just don’t let others see them. They are all highly intelligent as well. As for atrophied bodies, well - they are not spring chickens let us say.
They did put on a fantastic show! I had never seen them before, and am so glad I got the opportunity. The collective talent in the band, as well as their longevity is unusual. Michael knew them when they were just getting started, in the late 70’s when some of you weren’t even born yet (you know who you are).
As always, we stood right in front. I can’t even imagine being anywhere else at a show - it would really suck looking at some tall guy’s back all night. I managed a few photos. They’re a cheeky lot, too.
In case you’re not familiar with their music, I’ve shared three videos below for your enjoyment. Go enjoy them now.
Very good.
Now go enjoy the week - we’ve got some beautiful sunny days ahead here. I hope you’re not sweltering where you are!
Cheers!
Tidbits
It’s BEAR TIME! The Brooks River bears are chowing down in Katmai National Park. Meet the stars, watch them eat, and stay tuned for Fat Bear Week in October.
At the rate things are going in 2019, maybe an asteroid strike wouldn’t be all bad. That was close!
Fascinating - and the genealogical implications…
Making: I’ve gone making mad! I was in a bit of a slump, but the ink and watercolor pieces have me excited about making art again. I spent time yesterday and today painting watercolors of various sizes - some quite large! I have plenty to keep me busy with inking for a while. It’s hard to stop once I get going!
Investigating: Alcohol inks… those colors! Such potential.
Reading: Who’s got time for reading? I’m making art!
Recently eaten: We hit Janbo Cafe last night for a big bowl of Pho. So good! The other food looks good too.

Ahhhh, Mekons…

And an old one, performed just a few days before we saw them:
Question of the Week

What’s your favorite webcomic?
(did I ask this before? I can’t remember…)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Last week I asked about your favorite beverages for cooling down on a hot day.
Cool water for me, too damn hot in Texas for me to really appreciate anything else. This time of year I drink 3/4 to a gallon, every. single. day.
Years ago I bought a SodaStream Penguin because I had a very serious San Pellegrino habit that resulted in far too many bottles. It was one of the best purchases of my life, because I love fizzy water, and if I want to get fancy, I'll mix it up with bitters, homemade shrubs /syrups, or juice.
Now instead of crates of bottles, I trade out empty canisters of CO2 which get recharged.[I had to ask - what’s a shrub?]
If you like tart, you'll love shrubs. https://drinks.seriouseats.com/2011/06/cocktail-101-how-to-make-shrub-syrups.html
I like a nice seltzer with fresh citrus but nothing beats Alkaline water at room temperature. I’m quite boring these days...
Currently, SPORTea and Health Ade kombucha are my favorites. And, I’m always happy to chug a glass of water from the tap when I’m parched.
