That's Gneiss! #79 ~ Not a Moose
I didn’t think anything could beat the excitement of last week. That vacuum purchase was quite a high point.
I was wrong.
Monday after work started out just fine - I had retrieved the Durango from the dealer where we bought our new car, and took this nice photo of the two cars together before moving the Durango in back of the house.
Then I took the dog for an uneventful walk, as I do every day after work. I hadn’t been home for more than a few minutes when I looked out the window and saw - WHAT?!!
I swear, I had NOT been drag racing up and down my street.
We went out into the yard to see what was up, and a cop waved us back into our house as he pointed down the street and said “we’re looking at something down there.”
Okay then. The neighbor had also come out, and they waved her back inside as well. I saw her scamper back inside, waving something and heard her say “I’ve got my knitting needle!” She’s a funny lady.
A few days earlier the police had apparently blocked off our road for about three hours. Michael had been not paid much attention, so I can only assume it may have been related. He’s not a curtain-twitcher so he had no good information for me.
This time, however, I didn’t need him to report back - I saw it all with my own eyes!
Are those… guns?
Why yes, they are. Even Michael was a bit more interested at this point. He saw them using the red jeep a few houses down as cover as they moved in on their target. My guess is they were going to one of the houses at the end of our block - I’ve seen kind of sketchy people down that way. Drugs, stolen goods - who knows what the problem was? Anyhow, after a few minutes I looked outside and saw they had somebody in the back of a third car that had shown up. One of the two cops in the picture above came back to his car and fussed around for a minute and got his rifle!
Sorry no picture of that - he was moving pretty quickly back down the street.
For a while there wasn’t much to see. I looked out the window a little later and saw they had another person cuffed and standing by the car.
These two laughed and chatted like old friends. The guy in cuffs did not look at all bothered to be there, and they kept looking down the street. Another cop came up, talked to them for a minute, then headed off again. At this point the cop undid the guys cuffs and let him go - and he just sauntered back down the street like it was any other day. Weird. Undercover perhaps? That was pretty much the end of it, and before long our street was back to its quiet self.
I cannot even imagine what excitement might happen this week!
For what it’s worth, I feel that our street is quite safe, and I never feel uncomfortable walking around, even by the end of the block where there was apparently some sort of criminal activity going on. Things are just a little more interesting here…
Many of you know that in my wanderings with the dog I come across a never-ending supply of free items sitting by the side of the road. I often take a photo and document the amazing finds, especially the sofas that sit in the rain for days. Eww.
On Tuesday I was walking the dog, and spotted something ahead on the sidewalk - something a little out of the ordinary. When I got close and saw what it was, I decided I’d be back with the car to pick it up as soon as I finished walking the dog. I didn’t take a photo at the time, and in fact was so excited I stepped off the curb and fell, twisting my ankle and scraping my knee!
So - what could be so great to be worth an injury?
That, my friends is a Quilter’s Hoop “Wonder” Stand - perfect for holding larger hand-sewing or embroidery projects for easier working. And not a cheap item, either. Some roadside finds are definitely worth stopping for! I can think of a few ways to use this stand for future projects.
Today we saw a painting of a sea captain leaning against a streetlight post. We did not take it (and sadly I did not get a picture).
One more thing…
THIS. IS. NOT. A. MOOSE.
Any fool can see that’s a deer!
An inflatable moose head is actually rather elusive, as I have determined from spending too much time trying to find it. I was determined though, and I did find it.
This is a moose!
But wait - within the same listing for the Inflatable Christmas Artificial Moose Head you can buy this!
Or, you can buy the Inflatable Deer Head for Outdoor Amusement Park Decoration. I am so confused…
I must calm myself with this lovely rhododendron.
I think that’s enough for today. The next week is shaping up to be incredibly busy. As long as there’s no more law enforcement activity nearby, I think I’ll be good. I hope your week goes well too!

Which creative type are you? Also - this is the most visually mesmerizing quiz you’ll probably ever see. I’m a “producer.”

Recently eaten: oh my, it was a good week. Friday night we tried a new Indian restaurant - Mahal Indian Cuisine. So good! It was tucked away in a funny location behind Paine Field with a whole bunch of other restaurants we’d like to try out. A great find. Yesterday we had lunch at Polska Kuchnia in Stanwood. Nom nom nom…
Making: More pedal enclosure bases for Michael’s guitar pedals. Also pulling a lot of weeds in the garden - have to take advantage of the sunny days! I planted a few sunflower and hollyhock seeds. Hopefully the birds won’t get them!
Reading: I’m well into White Fragility. Highly recommended. I haven’t started another fiction book yet, but have a couple lined up. I’ll see where my mood is in the next few days. Meanwhile I’m poking around in Make and Mend: Sashiko-Inspired Embroidery Projects.
Videos of the Week
Two four-letter band names, two shopping carts - two excellent songs with a common theme.
Question of the Week
Answer if you wish, and I’ll share next week - anonymously of course. Just hit reply…
Not so much a question as an assignment this week - find a music video with a shopping cart in it! Bonus if the band name is one four letter word.

Last week I asked about your favorite sandwich.
Favorite sammitch? Roast beef, provolone, banana peppers with mayo on pressed Cuban bread. Real Cuban bread - the kind they make with a palmetto leave pressed into the top so it leaves an impression.
I don’t think I have a “favorite” sandwich. I like peanut butter and jelly (with Ruffles potato chips), grilled cheese (with tomato soup), tuna on rye, and meatball subs when the bread gets soggy from the tomato sauce.
Grilled cheese… I’m not a purist, and like to try different versions when I go out to eat. That said, Tillamook medium cheddar on sourdough bread is the best.
BLT, has to be on wonder bread with Hellmans mayo and iceberg lettuce. Non negotiable.
