That's Gneiss! #66 ~ It's beginning to look like we're moving
It has been a week of ups and downs.
Our furnace finally died, which was actually a good thing because it meant somebody could come and fix it. The motherboard was fried out. The first people we called, who had worked on the system recently couldn’t make it until next Thursday, or maybe Monday. Days that haven’t happened yet. Unacceptable, so we called CPI, who have done great plumbing work for us - and they came out the same day! We had to wait one more day while they got the part in, but they provided service as if it was urgent!
We’re so glad to have it fixed, what with the threat of snow later today.
JUST SAY NO TO SNOW.
We’re replacing one of the bedroom doors, and when Michael went to install the door he discovered that they had messed up the measurements. Never mind that we had brought the old door in so they could get it correct. Ugh. This will have to wait until Thursday for remedying.
We put several items up on Craigslist, and it turns out that people like free things. We’re a bit worried about the piano, but a couple of people have expressed interest. Please people, please just come and haul it away. Somebody is coming to take my monstrosity of a computer desk today.
I am really enjoying getting rid of things, and the prospect of starting fresh!
Yesterday we had a smashingly good day, and got a lot done. We took another carload of boxes down to the house, and met with the Xfinity guy to get the internet account set up. He was an odd duck, but we’re cutting our bill in half from what it is now. Then we headed over to Lowe’s to purchase a washer and dryer with a stop at Denny’s for lunch along the way - haven’t eaten there in years! We found a suitable Whirlpool pair at a great price, arranged deliver for next Saturday, and were on our way - back home before 4:00. More packing, tearing down my computer desk, and dinner at Flyer’s (we are getting close to the zone of eating every meal out).
WHEW. This moving business is going to wear me out.
And now for something completely different - a very confused tree. It’s always early, but not January early. I’m enjoying the burst of pink when I pass by on dog walks.
Today is dedicated to packing and errands here in town. And waiting for snow, apparently.
The day would not be complete without a report from the intrepid travelers! They are currently on a 9-day trek in Virachey and we won’t hear from them for a few more days. The visited Angkor Wat and saw a monkey eating corn.
Oh dear, there’s snow mixed with the rain. Yay.
Next week will be the last newsletter from the old house! Life will return to a better version of normal soon.

Tidbits
Not much today - too much to do!
Try this - just not in library books, please!
Citizen science alert - report bumble bee sightings through Bumble Bee Watch or get serious and adopt a grid for the PNW Bumble Bee Atlas.
Reading: listening to The Witches: Salem 1692 while I make my last few commutes. It is a fascinating account of the panic that struck Salem.
Making: nothing!
Eating: stuff! We are managing to eat well this week, but starting next Saturday it’s take-out all the time until we get moved.
Video of the Week
If Nolan and Mia’s trek is anything like this (without the camera trap work), they’ll be having the time of their lives!
Question of the Week
Just hit reply to send your answer, and I’ll share it next week. Always anonymous!
Are you a fan of snow, or would you rather it just stayed away?

Last week I asked who you’d like to eat dinner with, and what you’d eat.
Funny my GF just asked me this question as we were going to bed. It’s tough because who would you really get a good dinner with and what would it mean to you? A lot of famous literary types and artists and leaders come to mind but what would dinner with Hunter S. Thompson really mean to me? I’d say there’s a couple I’d enjoy for sure like Dr. MLK Jr. or Obama. Or Bill W. (A.A.).
But it’s just dinner. Could be weird. Maybe not. So I decided on my Mom. So I could ask all those things I meant to ask or couldn’t know to ask before she died. And in that case I’d want her to cook for me what she used to. Anything from her days in raising me. That would be a great dinner and company, I think.
