That's Gneiss! #56b ~Back in Business!
Hello again!
We had our internet restored this morning - the Comcast technician stopped by, gave us a new box, and away we went. Such a quick, easy fix. After speaking with a robot on the phone, then texting with a chat bot I expected another robot to show up in a driverless car. But no, it was a real person - at least that’s what Michael tells me.
We were down for about 48 hours. It was a strange experience, and really hammered in how much we rely on the internet as we go about our daily business. Fortunately we weren’t kept from doing anything critical during that time, and in the end it was kind of nice to have the break. I have my phone and was able to use LTE for internet access, but didn’t overcompensate.
The most annoying thing about it? No data uploaded from my weather station during that time - and of course we had a big rain and wind event. Figures.

I’m recovering nicely from the pulled muscle in my leg - I’ll spare you a photo of the gigantic hideous bruise that formed. It could have been much worse.
I will show you a photo of the frightening salad I saw at the grocery store today. Due to the romaine recall, on Sunday we found that many of the other salad mixes were sold out. When I went to the store today, a new shipment had not come in yet. There was however several bags of this salad available…
I realize one doesn’t have to use the dressing in the bag, but that just sounds nasty.
We went without salad tonight.

One last little tale before I send this off to you. Those of you with dogs may have experienced a situation where your dog picks up something very “special” while on a walk and carries it all the way home. Our first dog Syd once found a soggy pig ear a few blocks away, and as soon as he nabbed it he headed for home full speed - no more dillydallying along the way. The found item was so special he needed to get straight home to enjoy it! Well, tonight Rowland found something in a yard at the end of the block and true to form once it was in his mouth he made a beeline for home. I wasn’t certain he had it, as I had tried to pull him away from whatever it was. He acted dodgy while Michael toweled him off, then WOULDN’T TAKE HIS TREAT. He ran immediately to the spot where he eats his pig ears and chews, and finally let go of whatever was in his mouth.
We peered at it - a gray oblong on the floor. Michael started to reach for it, but Rowland growled then quickly ate it.
Out best guess is it was either an old cigar or a decaying human finger…
Have a nice week!
Tidbits
Embroider your way through 2019!
Everybody’s favorite book award - the Diagram Prize for the Oddest Book Title of the Year! Here’s the shortlist, and the winner.
Bollards - not just for protection!
Making: I have got the stamp carving bug again! I am getting excited to participate in this year’s #carvedecember - carving one (or more) rubber stamps each day in December. It was seeing everyone’s posts last year that got me interested in learning how to carve. I had better stock up on pink rubber!
Recently eaten: oh my, we have eaten a lot of good food in the last week+. Michael made meatloaf (it really is the best ever!), then on Thanksgiving we had Osso Buco. We had overly-expensive sandwiches at the new coffee shop in town. Decent, but they just seemed to be a couple of bucks too much for what we got. On Nolan’s recommendation we tried out Fiamma Burger in Bellingham - a good quick lunch!
Reading: I’ve been reading a lot too! It’s amazing what you can get done when you’re not staring at a computer (though a little bit of my reading was done online). I hit my goal of 80 books for the year, and there’s still a month to go. I’ve got a couple of things on the go, but here’s what I finished this week:
Videos of the Week
Here are some fine tunes from the 60’s for you. Enjoy!
Slick dance moves in this one! Fancy drumming too.
Question of the Week
Just hit reply to send your answer, and I’ll share it next week. Always anonymous!
If you suddenly found yourself without access to the internet for a few days, what would you miss the most?

Last week I asked about your favorite holiday season beverages.
🥃
Eggnog. I’m pretty sure I don’t even really taste it because I drink it so fast. Yummy!
I’m over in Denmark and we’ve been drinking a lot of gløgg at the Christmas market! It’s basically warm spiced wine with raisins and almonds in it. Sometimes they even add rum or whiskey!
Being in the South AND a tea totaler(I know so boring)- I make a cold ginger, lemon honey soda that is criminal tasty and also good for you. If I was serving my friends that imbibe however I would make them a Kentucky Baby Horse: Ginger and bourbon -or if they are feeling frisky, a Kentucky Car Bomb: which is an all natural energy drink in a pint glass-pour bourbon in a shot glass over a destemmed maraschino cherry with a top off of maraschino cherry juice; drop the cherry shot glass in the pint glass of the energy drink and Boom!- quaff straight down. Crowd pleaser! But limit that to one maybe two as it makes people unpredictable!
While I wouldn’t say that I have a favorite drink for the season, I definitely have more interest in mulled anything: cider, wine, tea. The internet is telling me I should be drinking a cider mimosa on Thanksgiving morning, and I can’t say it doesn’t sound good…
Eggnog and whiskey - a treat for myself with Christmas dinner.
