Thursday — Thanksgiving —Tradition — Turkey —Twaddle — T[fill in the blank]
Choose any word starting with “T” that fits your mood! Here in the states it’s time for the annual food-fest known as Thanksgiving. If you’re celebrating in any way shape or form today, have a good one! If you’re not celebrating due to geography or choice I also hope you have a great day and eat something that pleases you.
Today is a day that is wonderful for some, horrible for others. Some stick to the most traditional of menus, though even that means different things to different people. Others make an effort to stray as far as possible from turkey, stuffing, and the works. We’ll be eating one of Michael’s delicious roast chicken dinners, which includes stuffing, roast potatoes and vegetables, brussel sprouts with bacon, and cranberry sauce. Yum!
There are lots of television, movie, and musical Thanksgiving traditions that people enjoy. Here’s one of my favorites, the well-intentioned turkey drop from WKRP with on the scene reporting from Les Nessman!
So much has been going on since I last wrote. Two weeks ago we traveled to Yakima again, this time to celebrate my mom’s 85th birthday! Nolan was there, and my brother Chris too. It was the first time I’d seen Chris in person for two years! Stupid pandemic. We stayed by the Yakima river again, and got to see the variation in river level as the mountain rains made their way downriver.

Day (evening) two:
Day three:
It’s been so wet this month. I expect to break 10” of rain measured by my weather station by the end of the month. It’s at 8.19” right now, with a lot more rain on the way today, let alone the next few days.
The day before we left for Yakima Michael went out to check the levels in the Durango, as he always does. He discovered that there was no water or coolant, and that the water pump gasket had probably blown. This would explain the brief warning message I saw the week before while out getting my booster shot - I was probably lucky to get home. The gasket was on a list of several bits of work the Durango needed that added up to way more money than the poor thing was worth. We’d already decided to drive it until we couldn’t anymore and thankfully that day arrived before we tried to travel over the mountains. Disaster averted! The Challenger got us to Yakima and back - no snow, whew!
On our return we had a very quick whirlwind of car buying. Michael is very good at finding the best cars online, and because we’re decisive people we already knew what we wanted to replace the Durango. A winter driver that can tow the trailer, and new enough that it will last us for a good long while. Hello 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee! It’s pretty posh and we’ve got a lot of bells and whistles to figure out.
Goodbye, 1999 Dodge Durango! You served us very well for nine years. We went the donation route and whatever comes of it will go to WFMU. Once I find out more about the donation, I’ll see if I can direct it to support my favorite show - Dance With Me, Stanley. It’s a weekly dose of polka, polka-adjacent, and sometimes not-polka music on Friday afternoon.
~~~NEWS FLASH~~~
The hideous inflatacrap two houses down has made its return. I had hoped that all items were permanently wind-damaged last year, but no.
On that dire note I think I’ll wrap things up here. Time to crack a beer and break out the art supplies! I’m doing a workshop from Alisa Burke, my new favorite! I love her free-form approach to art. So bright and colorful!
Stay warm and cozy, eat well and whatever you want, and have a wonderful day no matter what or where you find yourself.
“Curating, skewering and roasting the worst of advertising to comic perfection”
This sort of thing is right up my alley - finding the ridiculous in packaging and advertising. Strange wording, odd images, or downright weird products. Branded lip balm, anyone?
That river! Wow. Reminds me I need to check in on my BC friends.
We avoid the traditional turkey dinner too. No one wants to shop, cook, or clean up. This year we had Japanese? Chinese? Hot Pot! Luckily, we don't get a lot of infla-ta-crap in our neighborhood. Holy moly! I didn't realize branded lib balm was such a thing. I actually got some from my DENTIST!
